Papiesvlei Farm

The farm owner at Papiesvlei approached us for a 1000V step-up step-down transformer system to provide power to a new centre pivot that was planned to be installed. Due to the cost involved and the presence of loadshedding which would severely affect the irrigation times available, we pursued the possibility of an offgrid Victron Solar system instead. After carefully monitoring a similar pivot on the farm, we designed a small 9kVA 3 phase Victron system with 10kWh of battery storage and 3.27kWp of solar. The system has been running extremely well for approximately 18 months now, with the ability to irrigate through the night if needed. This project was extremely satisfying for us to design and install as it perfectly showcased the versatility, eco friendliness and cost benefit that a well designed solar system can have over traditional electrical supplies from the utility.
