Do you have a working earth-leakage device installed in your distribution board?

Every household should have an earth leakage device that is situated in a distribution board. All normal socket outlets in a household, along with certain other fixed appliances such as geysers shall be protected by an earth leakage device that trips at a maximum 30mA earth leakage or fault current.
The earth leakage device is a vital safety device that protects the user and the installation against electrical dangers. It has a test button that should be tested monthly. If the test button does not activate the tripping mechanism, the earth leakage device should be replaced.
Note however that it will not work if there is no power to the earth leakage device.
